Transfer your existing repair competence into full battery-electric conversion work: donor assessment, approved component installation, integration, controlled commissioning and conversion servicing.
Online weeks are about 15 planned hours; physical weeks are 30 supervised hours. Each six-month block has 24 teaching weeks and two weeks for holidays, make-up and reassessment. The dated calendar is issued before enrolment.
| When | What you learn | Evidence you produce |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | Online: EV architecture, safety theory, donor feasibility calculations and project planning | Donor brief, concept workbook and safety assessment |
| Month 2 | Physical electrical bridge, HV safety gate and drive-unit integration | Individual practical gate and mounting records |
| Months 3–4 | Approved battery packaging, charging, controls, auxiliaries and installation rotations | Individual component and interface records |
| Month 5 | Integration inspection, controlled commissioning and validation | Reviewed test log and defect closure |
| Month 6 | Converted-vehicle servicing, handover capstone and final assessment | Conversion dossier, skills transcript and individual defence |
Projects use an engineering-reviewed kit, training rig or suitable donor. Your final record states the actual platform, tasks and tests completed. Course completion does not itself approve a converted vehicle for public-road use or authorise unrestricted high-voltage work.
You demonstrate inspection, mechanical measurement, low-voltage testing, diagnostic reasoning and safe work. If you need more ICE practice first, we recommend the 12-month route.
Successful learners receive the DMECH completion certificate for their route and an assessed skills transcript. Any external qualification will be identified separately in the course offer, including its awarding body, eligibility, assessment and fees.
A DMECH award, not a government qualification. Course completion does not approve a converted vehicle for road use or authorise unrestricted high-voltage work. How assessment works
Every route covers these subjects at the depth your starting point needs. Their hours are already inside the 660-hour total — nothing is charged separately.
