A structured ICE repair programme first, with a practical exit assessment, then the same conversion stage the experienced mechanics take.
Online weeks are about 15 planned hours; physical weeks are 30 supervised hours. Each six-month block has 24 teaching weeks and two weeks for holidays, make-up and reassessment. The dated calendar is issued before enrolment.
| When | What you learn | Evidence you produce | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Months 1–6 | Online foundations, then servicing, engine repair, fuel/ignition, cooling, HVAC, drivetrain, brakes, chassis electrical and diagnostic practice | 630-hour ICE stage plus an individual practical exit assessment | 630 |
| Months 7–12 | Common conversion programme: online planning, then supervised physical integration, commissioning and servicing | 660-hour conversion stage plus capstone and final assessment | 660 |
You practise routine maintenance, mechanical inspection, engine condition testing and selected supervised dismantling and reassembly, then verify your findings through structured job records.
You join the conversion stage after passing the ICE exit gate. No learner moves into a restricted task just because a number of months has passed.
If workshop tools, measurement or basic vehicle systems are new to you, the 24-month route gives you much more repetition and deeper ICE repair before conversion.
Successful learners receive the DMECH completion certificate for their route and an assessed skills transcript. Any external qualification will be identified separately in the course offer, including its awarding body, eligibility, assessment and fees.
A DMECH award, not a government qualification. Course completion does not approve a converted vehicle for road use or authorise unrestricted high-voltage work. How assessment works
Every route covers these subjects at the depth your starting point needs. Their hours are already inside the 1,290-hour total — nothing is charged separately.
