What we collect when you contact us, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Last updated 10 October 2026.
What we collect.
Only what you choose to send us:
- Enquiries — your name, phone or WhatsApp number, email if you give it, the topic and your message (for example, vehicle details for an assessment).
- Academy expression of interest — your name, age, gender, contact details, location, education, workshop experience and current skills, subject interest and preferred route, online-learning access, availability for physical sessions, how you plan to fund the course, whether you need accommodation, whether you want marketing messages, and anything else you add. If you go on to screening, DMECH also keeps your interview and assessment records; these are staff-only.
- Vehicle photos — if you attach photos to a retrofit assessment request. They are stored privately and only DMECH staff can view them.
- WhatsApp conversations — when you continue a conversation with us on WhatsApp, the messages you send there.
To stop spam, each request is stored with a scrambled, one-way code made from your network address. It can’t be turned back into your address and is only used to limit repeated submissions.
We do not ask for payment card details or passwords on this website.
Why we use it.
- To reply to your enquiry, arrange an assessment, quote or appointment, and follow up on it.
- To manage Academy expressions of interest and admissions — screening, assessment, route decisions and offers — and contact you about intake dates and terms. Registering interest is free and is not paid enrolment. We only send you other DMECH marketing if you tick the separate optional box.
- To keep a record of what was agreed, and to improve our services.
Our basis for using it.
We rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on our forms, and on taking steps you have asked for before entering a contract with us. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us; this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
How long we keep it.
We keep enquiry and Academy interest records for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up, and then for up to two years unless you ask us to delete them sooner or the law requires us to keep them longer.
Cookies and browser storage.
This site stores a few small settings in your own browser — for example, your vehicle comparison list, whether the intro has played and your sound preference. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.
With your permission, we use Google Analytics cookies to understand how pages are used in aggregate (for example, which pages are visited). We ask before setting them, and you can change your choice any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Saying no doesn’t affect how the site works.
Your rights.
You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it or withdraw your consent. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as soon as we can. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
